The first advert i'm going to look at is the one from Coca-cola which is aired every christmas. I think that this advert is directed mostly at children between the ages of five to twelve.
The advert shows a large amount of trucks making their journey past houses and people who have gathered to watch it pass. The advert helps to create a sense of christmas and the joy in which people feel during the holidays.
The reason i think that this advert is based for children is because of the use of bright lights on the trucks along side bright colours to make it stand out. These factors will also help to draw in the attention of younger viewers as it stands out and seems alot more exciting than those which you see on every adverts.
Another big factor from these trucks is the massive pictures of santa on the side, children believe deeply in him so seeing him on the trucks would help to enhance their excitment within the christmas period. Also santa is located right next to the "Coca-Cola" logo, this means that you would pick up on it.
The next factor that makes me think that this advert is designed for children is the factor of magic which has been used throught out. When the trucks drive past we see things like balls and stars appearing on the trees along side lights, this helps to create a magic feel about christmas. The last factor that tells me this advert is for children is they use them during the advert showing the excitment in each of their faces as the vans go past.
I think this advert works well with the target audience and what its trying to portray.
The next type of advertising i'm going to look at is from Fanta's own website. When you look at the website you are given a tab called "flavours" that sends you to a part of the website that shows the different types of fanta available; E.G Orange, Fanta Fruit Twist etc. As you can see from this picture above it doesnt state much about the drink within prices etc but it tells you about the quantities you can buy it in, for example "2 litre bottles" The colours used in the background tie in well with the real colour of the drink; the oranges and reds. You are also able to see the logo more than once along with showing a real photograph of the Fruit twist bottle. Doing this is important as it makes you aware of the product brand. Also because they've put the logo up more than once its more likely to stay in your head as well as standing out. I think this target audience is for people who already know about fanta and have visited the website (fans of fanta). I think the target audience for this would be for people aged 25 to 35, i think this because the advert doesn't particually stand out and it shows how you can buy the fanta in "bulk" along with singular bottles and cans. The advert also has bubbles that seem to be coming out from the bottle, this gives a sense of fizz implying that "fanta fruit twist" is a fizzy drink rather than being still.
To the right hand side you are able to see a little piece that explains about the drink, i think adding this will keep people interested in what the product is and make them feel more encouraged to buy it.
The site also gives you and link which re-directs you to a website that indicates the nutritional values in the Fruit twist drink. Health has become more important and i think that it's more encouraging for people to be able to read up apon the values etc. Once again i think this will help to make the drink appeal to the target audience.
When looking at the BSDA (British Soft Drinks Association) i can see that between 2004 and 2010 soft drinks have have had a massive rise and full within anual consumption. Between 2004 and 2006 you are able to see that soft drunks hit their peak and ever since then have began to decline. In 2008 Soft drinks hit their lowest mark within anual consumption and only started to pick itself back up in 2009. This graph suggests that soft drinks have began to make a comeback with their percentages rising up. I think that a main factor of this change could be down to the new materials to which are available nowadays within advertising. Adverts are now widely available due to being on banners on the internet, coming up on you're mobiles, on television and even in magazines and newspapers. There is also alot more technical stuff that can be added into a advert making it more appealing and interesting. Since cinemas have began to show films and clips in 3D some of the adverts have become more interesting and may make viewers even more interested in buying the product. Overall i think that these factors have helped to boost soft drink sales over the last few years.
One of the top markets and most recognised brand within soft/energy drinks, along side coke is the energy drink Red Bull. With a simply hand drawn cartoon the adverts are effective and give you the impression that when drinking it you will be able to "fly." I think that the advert would target people within the age range of about 16-25 as Redbull would commonly aim their products at this range. Secondly within the advert they use different types of whit and humour to make it stand out while still being simple. One advert, shows a man flying above a bird and getting his "own back" after the bird pooed on the mans shoulder. This advert was humours and i think targetted the audience well.
Red Bull was something that appeard in our faces on a daily basis appealing to a broad range of people. From 'Adrenaline junkies' as implied from the Red Bull Air Race events, or the 22 million likes there Facebook Page has. By putting Red bull on facebook they've also been able to target a wider audience due to the millions of people that use it on a daily basis, once again this is typicall people between the age of 16 to 25. The facebook campaigns gives the follower a insight to upcoming events and products.
Looking at Red Bull in it's clear that they know how to appeal to it's target audience.
Redbull hold loads of different events too which get their target audiences involved. A main event that has been running and we've seen advertised alot on television where redbull asked viewers to come up with their own "flying device" and test it to see if it worked. This event ties in closely with the slogan in which redbul revolves around... "redbull gives you wings" i think that this event would help to boost up the amount of people intrested in the drink aswel as wanting to go along for the day and have fun.
I think that red bull does alot for its fans and still manages to keep it's campaigns and adverts different.
Altogether i think that coke has the best adverts and campaigns due to them having different competitions, adverts and deals. I also think that coke is able to target their audiences the best along with still appealing to millions of people.
